From the time I was a kid, I would think about race and ethnicity. It didn’t take much for me to realize I was considered “different” by the world around me. It was always hard to fit in for me, being “too black” for the white kids and “too white” for the black kids. Anyway, I’ve always just wanted a platform to really speak about these issues in race and ethnicity, and finally in 2020 (what a year, y’all), realized that a book could be just what I needed. I think that year made me realize that we don’t know what will happen tomorrow, so why wait to make your dreams a reality? I’ve always wanted to wait for the perfect time to write a book, but finally, I see that the perfect time is now.

I write to give voice to my black sisters out there, struggling to feel represented and to find a voice. And I have a special place in my heart for all those women who feel they don’t quite fit in, no matter what color they are. So I write about it, as well as some other issues that women tend to face that end up being hidden or unspoken about. And my favorite way to do this? Fiction. What a disarming and engaging way to make a social commentary that anyone can engage in!
